Therapy for Adolescents

At the best of times, adolescence (age 12 - 19) is a time fraught with anxiety, angst and challenges. Considering social media and the pressures of the 21st century, with an increasing global understanding of sex, identity and gender complexities, there are often times when a teen may need therapy to help them through these difficult years.

The approach of Adolescent Psychotherapists seeks to look beneath the surface of difficult emotions, behaviours and relationships to help adolescents and their families to understand themselves and their problems. We are trained to carefully observe what a young person might be communicating nonverbally through their behaviour and play.

Adolescent Psychotherapists may see young people individually or with other family members and can support these relationships as well as those with carers and professionals. Concurrent work with the parents or carers of children in therapy is an important part of the adolescent psychotherapy approach.
